Official Records and Custody Contacts

The Tama County Sheriff's Office operates the county jail and holds sheriff booking and arrest materials. Use the Administration/Civil line for report copies and records questions. The Communications/Jail line serves current jail and non-emergency operational questions. Office business hours apply to administrative work, while emergency calls must always go to 911.

Choose the route that matches the information needed. County custody, a released booking, a filed court case, state corrections, and federal custody are maintained in separate systems.

  • For a county booking record or intake photograph, review the Tama County records and roster path, then contact Sheriff Administration/Civil with a full name, approximate booking date, and the exact items requested.
  • For a person believed to be in the Tama County Jail now, use the official roster and call Communications/Jail when the twice-daily web snapshot may not be current enough.
  • For a possible county warrant, use the Most Wanted and warrant-check information. The selected wanted page is not a complete warrant-clearance system.
  • For filed charges, hearings, court orders, or a case disposition, use Iowa Courts Online or contact the Clerk of District Court. The jail cannot provide the final court outcome.
  • For a person in Iowa prison or within the state corrections system, use the Iowa Department of Corrections offender search. IDOC is not the source for a new Tama County jail booking.
  • For federal prison custody, use the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator. For adult immigration custody, use the ICE Online Detainee Locator. Neither system is a county arrest or booking-photo database.
  • For an emergency or an immediate threat, call 911. Do not send urgent reports through a general website contact form.

A person missing from one database may appear in another because the sources track different stages. Someone released from county jail will fall outside a current-custody roster, while a sentenced person may later appear in IDOC. Court records show the case path, not real-time physical custody. Verify each fact with the office that created it.
